Latinos know there is nothing more important than spending time with familia and friends, particularly around special events like holidays and birthdays.
However, in the time of Coronavirus, we are actually putting the people we love at risk when we meet in person.
Unlike many diseases, many people get COVID-19 and are contagious without showing any symptoms at all, while others (especially older people) get extremely sick and even die from it.
That means we all are at risk of infecting the ones we love without even knowing it.
In order to stop the spread of this disease and protect the ones we love, it is important to follow all of the following guidelines for as long as this pandemic is active:
Stay home as much as possible–and don't invite anyone over. That means minimizing your trips to stores as much as possible and only sending one person to make one big shopping trip rather than the whole family. That also means not visiting with friends and family in person—even for important holidays such as Easter. Instead, show your love and protect your loved ones by calling or videochatting.
Stay at least 6 feet away from everyone who does not live in the same house as you at all times. Whether while you are grocery shopping, while you are at work, or if you happen to run into someone you know, be sure to maintain at least 6 feet of distance between you and everyone you meet to avoid spreading COVID-19. That means no handshaking, hugging, or kissing anyone who does not live in your house.
Wear A Mask. Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask. Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
Wash your hands—more than you think is necessary—and do not touch your face. Especially wash your hands every time you touch anything from outside your home, such as after work, a shopping trip, or handling packages delivered to your door. One way the virus spreads is by touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with infected hands, so minimize touching your face just to be safe.
Frequently disinfect the doorknobs and handles in your car and home as well as anything that you bring into the house, including your phone. You can use disinfecting wipes or spray as well as diluted bleach depending on the surface.
