Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP)
With the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by Congress and subsequent signing into law by President Obama in February 2009, the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) was initiated. With its mission to expand technology accessibility, BTOP provides funding to establish or upgrade computer facilities across U.S. communities geared towards the general public and to specific vulnerable populations including low-income, under/unemployed, seniors, children, minorities, and people with disabilities.
New Technology Resources!
Through BTOP funding, CPLC is upgrading the computer resource labs at the Westside Workforce Development Center (WWDC) and Carl Hayden Community Center (CHCC). Additionally, a new computer lab is under construction at the new CPLC Commerce Plaza adjacent to the Corporate Office.
What is the benefit to CPLC and our Clients?
The labs will be open to our clients for general use and for their participation in technology trainings on Computer Basics, Microsoft Office and popular internet business applications. Also as available, the labs will serve as venues for CPLC programs/departments to conduct staff trainings.
How soon?
Look for the WWDC and CCHC labs to be ready and operational by the beginning of March 2011 and the Commerce lab by mid-March 2011. Be sure to stop by and check out the new resources and be on the lookout for expansion to other CPLC sites as opportunities arise!
