Housing Counseling

CPLC is a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agency with over thirty (30) years of experience in the development of affordable housing in both urban and rural communities.  This knowledge supports our persevering interest and efforts to expand opportunities that provide affordable housing in low to moderate income families. We provide necessary housing counseling services designed to help individuals and families acquire relevant education to make sound decisions, identify affordable housing options and maintain stability.

CPLC brings its mission to life through a wide variety of housing-related counseling services. Our staff of experienced counselors are dedicated to meet the needs of our clients through three primary areas of focus:

  • Assistance for clients experiencing a variety of existing housing issues including landlord-tenant conflicts, mortgage delinquency, pending foreclosure and incidents of fraud
  • Education through Homebuyer Education classes to provide essential information regarding the opportunities and responsibilities inherent in pre and post home purchase
  • Counseling delivered through pre-purchase services for initial assessment of a client's existing financial condition and identification of required action plans to remedy any issues. Counseling serves as a pre-requisite to obtain a cost-effective, properly structured mortgage loan, decrease risk of foreclosure and increase success in the single most important investment a family can make.

Counseling services in all three primary service groups usually begins with a group orientation or personal interview with one of our experienced housing counselors. We provide information on how the process works, what is needed and assess each client's current needs and next steps to maximize positive outcomes.
